Despite a strong showing against the NAIA’s seventh ranked team, Westmont Volleyball fell just a bit short in its bid to upset Azusa Pacific (13-1, 1-1 GSAC) on their home court on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (6-4, 0-2 GSAC) lost the first set 25-23 in the Golden State Athletic Conference match, but reversed the score in the second set, winning 25-23. The third set turned into a marathon affair with the Cougars finally prevailing 32-30. Azusa Pacific then put an end to the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Westmont senior outside hitter Alison Sharp led the Warriors with 23 kills while freshman Ciara Turner collected nine. Sophomore setter Candace Adema tallied 50 assists and Kristin Schroeder added 29 digs.
The Warriors will host their home opener on Tuesday evening as Westmont hosts second ranked Concordia in a seven o’clock match.
