Freshman middle blocker Ciara Turner led the Warriors with 13 kills and posted a .381 attack percentage as #24 Westmont Volleyball (8-6, 2-3 GSAC) earned a three-game sweep over the Hawks of San Diego Christian (25-14, 25-15, 27-25). The Golden State Athletic Conference game was played in El Cajon.
In the first set, the Warriors jumped out to a 14-4 lead and never looked back. The second set started out as a close battle. However, with the San Diego Christian up 8-7, Westmont went on an 8-1 run to take control.
The third set was close throughout with the Hawks earning set-point at 24-23 on a kill by Sigourney Rockmore. Westmont outside hitter Alison Sharp (9 kills, 6 digs) produced a kill to tie the game at 24 before setter Candace Adema (4 kills, 34 assists) dumped the ball over the net to give Westmont a 25-24 advantage. Adema served for match point, but the Hawks’ Rockmore and Mariah Boelk blocked an attack by Sharp, tying the match at 25.
Sharp responded with another kill to make the score 26-25 before a kill from Tessa Martin (9 kills, .421 attack percentage, 17 service receptions, 10 digs) gave the Warriors the win.
The Warriors continue their road trip tomorrow with a three o’clock game at Point Loma Nazarene.
