Pierre Mattsson and Nikolai Littleton scored in a three-minute span of the first half and SBCC recorded its first shutout Friday in a 2-0 men’s soccer triumph at Taft.
Mattsson converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute for the Vaqueros (2-1) after Chijoke Aranoto was pulled down in the box. Littleton made it 2-0 in the 24th minute on a looping shot from 25 yards out.
Freshman goalie Yonha Adrabi and the Vaquero defense notched their first shutout in a game that was played in 86-degree heat. Taft was the state runner-up in 2009.
“We dominated the game,” noted coach John Sisterson. “It’s great to come up here and get two wins.” The Vaquero women beat Taft 3-1 in the first half of the nonconference doubleheader.
SBCC will open a four-game homestand on Tuesday night against San Bernardino Valley at 7 p.m
