Caitlin Mannix was on fire returning serves Thursday and won all three of her sets to lead the San Marcos girls tennis team to its first victory of the season, a 13-5 decision over St. Bonaventure.
“Caitlin really played the big points well today and was aggressive at the right times,” coach Jarrod Bradley said. “She is really in a zone right now with her return game and feels that she can break anyone at any time.”
San Marcos’ doubles teams lost only six games all day while winning 54. Christine Pearson and Amy Ransohoff swept all of their sets at love to finish off a perfect day for the tandem.
“Christine and Amy really closed off the net well today, hitting easy volley winners to the open court. They played with the esprit de corps that you would expect of returning all-leaguers,” said Bradley.
Parisa Fallahi and Liz Morris swept their sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. They are currently 7-2 on the season, showing improved serves and net games, Bradley noted.
Chloe Maassen and Hannah McDaniel also swept their sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 on the day.
Dana Zylstra and Jenna Levine won their first sets as varsity singles player.
San Marcos (1-2) opens Channel League play on Tuesday at Ventura.
