Laguna Blanca falls in final at Carpinteria Invitational

Laguna Blanca made up lots of ground when it met St. Bonaventure in the final of the Carpinteria Invitational girls volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The Owls lost the title game, 25-15, but it was big improvement from their first meeting in pool play. In that morning match, St. Bonaventure won 25-5.

“They came out on fire and we were still asleep,” said Laguna coach Jim Alzina.

In the final, the Owls were down by only one, 13-12, before the Seraphs went on a run.

“They got into a really good rotation with their top player in the front row,” said Alzina.

Laguna Blanca advanced to the final by beating Carpinteria and Cabrillo in the playoffs.

Amanda Harvey and Amanda Schulenberg were named to the all-tournament team.

Alzina praised the serving of Arabella Westin-Smith.
