Dos Pueblos battled through two five-game matches on the second day at the Archbishop Mitty girls volleyball tournament, winning one and losing the other.
The Chargers outlasted a big St. Mary’s team in their first match and then fell to host Mitty in the fifth-place match.
Assistant coach Jacky Yao said the team was much more relaxed in the tight matches.
Jordan Roberts and Katie Spieler keyed a strong defensive effort with 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
At the net, Taylor Racich pounded 17 kills, Amanda Moriarty had 13 and Nicki Brown chipped in nine.
??Racich was the go-to player against Mitty, putting down 27 kills. Brown recorded 20 kills and Moriarty 10. Jordan led the defense with 20 digs.
“Nicky Brown and Taylor Racich were unstoppable all day, both showed that they have every shot in their repertoire,” said Yao. “Amanda Moriarty was steady offensively and allowed the team to give different looks.
“The middles, Sarah McKinny, Bianca Castro, and Lina Kleinschmidt, were steady all day and did a great job channeling balls to our back row.
“Roberts and Spieler were all over the floor digging the best swings every team had to offer.??“Tristan Racich effectively ran a fast-tempo, high octane offense all weekend.”
DP will return to action next Tuesday in a non-league game against Valencia.
