Dos Pueblos recorded two impressive water polo wins on the first day at the South Coast Tournament in Newport Beach.
The Chargers opened with a 17-5 rout of Mission Viejo. Chase Racich scored six goals and backup goalie Phillip Bates played a solid match in place of regular starter Brady Moore, who was serving a one-game suspension for getting a red card in DP’s last match against Loyola.
Moore returned for a 17-9 win over Servite in the Chargers’ second game. Moore had 11 blocks and two assists.
Christian Terpening scored five goals and Jared Rassler tallied four to pace the DP attack.
“It was pretty nice,” DP coach Chris Parish said. “It was the first time we beat Servite in three meetings. It was nice to finally get one.”
The CIF Division 1 fifth-ranked Chargers have a showdown with No. 3 Newport Harbor on Friday.
