Santa Barbara carried the momentum of Tuesday’s big golf win against Dos Pueblos into its Thursday match with Ventura at Buenventura Golf Course and fired the lowest score in school history.
The Dons shot 205 to Ventura’s 245 at the par-35 course. Medalist Haley True shot the all-time individual low score for a girls golfer at the school with a 3-over par 38.
With the win, Santa Barbara completed the first round of Channel League play at 4-0.
“They can smell a bunch of first-evers, possibly a Channel League title,” said Santa Barbara coach Ryan Throop.
Kylie Wagner fired a season-low 40 and Olivia Fanaro and Saralisa Ortega shot their best nine-hole scores of the season with a 42 and 43, respectively. Sarah Kirkwood finished with a 42.
Throop said the team threw out a 46.
“Three players had birdies,” he said. “Kylie had an eagle putt on No. 5 and missed a 5-footer. She tapped in for birdie.”
