Santa Barbara High’s girls volleyball team traveled to Las Vegas on Friday for the Durango Tournament, a national gathering 64-teams strong.
The Dons survived group play, finishing second by topping Arizona’s Gilbert 25-15 in a one-set tiebreaker after both teams were 2-1 upon completion of round-robin play. Central Catholic won the pool with Gilbert in third and Utah’s Bingham in fourth. The Dons fell to Central Catholic 25-22, 25-17 in their second match.
Santa Barbara is one of 16 teams that made the championship bracket to be played out on Saturday.
“In that last game we had really nice balance,” said Dons coach Lee Carlander.
Eve Ettinger amassed 38 kills and 17 digs in seven sets and Dani Rottman collected 24 kills and 20 digs. Lauren Capritto matched Rottman with 20 digs. Kira Schleich made an impact by dishing out 82 assists.
