Santa Barbara High’s girls volleyball team took four games to knock off visiting Santa Margarita on Friday night, securing a 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15 victory in the Dons’ season opener.
“So out of the gates we were sharp,” said Dons coach Lee Carlander, highlighting the play of Eve Ettinger, Dani Rottman and Holland Crenshaw.
USC-bound Ettinger put down 20 kills and collected eight digs to go with three aces. Carlander was also impressed with her passing, saying “she had a really nice match.”
Rottman, a junior, pounded out 13 kills with eight digs and two aces. Crenshaw, a junior transfer from El Dorado High School, tallied 10 kills and five blocks in her Dons debut.
Santa Barbara had a good start but had an up-and-down games 2 and 3. Santa Margarita was able to capture the third set but the Dons turned it up a notch in the fourth set to close it out on their home court.
Friday’s match was the start of a busy nine-day stretch for Santa Barbara that includes four matches plus the Archbishop Mitty Tournament.
