Santa Barbara’s boys water polo team split two games at the Villa Park Tournament on Thursday, beating El Dorado 13-3 and falling to La Serna 11-5.
In the La Serna match, coach Mark Walsh said it was a case of missed opportunities. “We scored five goals on 30 shots,” he said. “We were creating opportunities but we were not able to score at a high percentage.
“Their goalie played well,” he added. “It was one of those days were everyone had an off day. We’re not good enough to compensate when everyone is off.”
Mark Davis had two assists and four steals in the loss.
Against El Dorado, four players scored two goals. Skyler Matthews played an all-around game with a goal, a team-high three assists and four steals.
The Dons (8-4) will play in the 9th- to 16th-place bracket.
