Dos Pueblos rebounded from Friday’s loss to Newport Harbor and finished strong at the South Coast water polo tournament on Saturday.
The Chargers beat Los Alamitos, 16-9, and the Bishops School of La Jolla, 9-5, to place fifth in the prestigious tournament.
“This tied for our best finish in this prestigious tournament,” DP coach Chris Parish said. “Finishing the tournament with two wins is great. We play our first league game on Thursday, and the guys built a lot confidence with their play.”
Kevin Cappon carried the load against Los Alamitos with nine goals. Derek Shoemaker had five assists and drew two penalty shots.
“We’re ranked fifth and Los Alamitos is ranked sixth, so this was a big for us right now.”
The Chargers beat the Bishops School for the second time this season. Bishops is the No. 1-ranked team in San Diego.
Goalie Brady Moore had a big game, making 13 saves. DP built an 8-3 lead after three periods and that allowed Parish to clear his bench in the final stanza.
