Cate scored the first two times it touched the ball in rolling to a 46-0 mercy-rule 8-man football victory over High Desert Academy in hot Victorville on Saturday.
Mackie Greason threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Luke Shover on the Rams’ first offensive play of the game.
On High Desert Academy’s first possession, Cate defensive end Jackson Mauze ripped the ball away from the tailback and ran it back 20 yards for a touchdown.
Mauze also caught a touchdown pass from Greason, who threw for three scores and ran for two more.
The game was called when Greason scored his second TD on a 2-yard run with 9:38 left in the fourth quarter.
Coach Ben Soto praised his team’s defense.
“The guys played really well, they swarmed to the ball,” he said. “I’m real pleased with the whole team playing in the heat out there.”
