The defending CIF champion Campbell Hall girls tennis team showed Santa Barbara High it is a favorite to win the title again on Wednesday, topping the Dons 16-2 in Los Angeles.
“Every five or six years, Southern California will have a ‘super team.’ This is it,” said Dons head coach Steve Geremia, raving about the Vikings’ talent and experience.
Top-ranked junior players Sarah Lee and Sabrina Santamaria went 5-0 in singles for the Vikings while the defending CIF individual doubles champions, Zoe Katz and Valerie Thong, swept three sets together in doubles.
Haley Galitzer captured a set for the Dons in singles in the third round and Santa Barbara’s No. 1 doubles team of Ariana Hudson and Talia Hudson won another.
Santa Barbara’s early season record stands at 2-3. The Dons take the rest of the week off before playing four matches next week.
