Bullemer, Vaqueros enjoy solid day in the desert

SBCC and its top women’s golfer, Nicole Bullemer, both recorded season bests Friday in the first round of the Cactus Classic in Palm Springs.

SBCC shot 326 at Indian Canyons Resort, good for third place behind Mt. San Jacinto (316) and Bakersfield (320). Bullemer, a former Dos Pueblos High standout, finished at 4-over 74 and is tied for second, four shots behind the leader.

Emily Wisma turned in an 81 for the Vaqueros and Anna Samson shot 82.

“It was very hot today, about 110 degrees at the end of the round,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We shot our best score but we still have a tremendous amount of room for improvement. Our goal is to make up those 10 strokes and win the tournament.“

The final round starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
