Bullemer tops field in second straight WSC tourney

Nicole Bullemer is batting 1.000 in the Western State Conference.

The freshman from SBCC shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday in WSC No. 2 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club to capture medalist honors for the second time. Bullemer, a former star at Dos Pueblos High, had five birdies on the front side but was still even-par at the turn. She finished one shot ahead of Hannah Lee of Canyons.

Canyons shot 315 and won the five-school match to improve to 8-0. Bakersfield was second at 326 while the Vaqueros took third at 336. Nicole Denny shot 83 for Santa Barbara, which is tied for second at 5-3.

“It was a tough day,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “There weren‘t a whole lot of happy faces. Sometimes the game of golf can tear your heart out. We’re still a good team and I know we’ll bounce back.”

“I‘m happy for Nicole (Bullemer),” he added. “She‘s an outstanding athlete and maybe a better person.”

The Vaqueros return to action on Sept. 20 in WSC No. 3 at Oakmont CC in Glendale.
