Dos Pueblos was armed and ready to take down Ventura in a battle of top 10 teams in CIF Division 1 water polo.
The fifth-ranked Chargers dominated the No. 10 Cougars from the start and rolled to a 15-3 Channel League-opening victory Thursday at the Elings Aquatic Center.
“We were just ready for them,” DP coach Chris Parrish said. “We had a game plan that worked out really well for Ventura.”
The Charger defense smothered Ventura’s 2-meter player and punished the Cougars for taking poor shots.”
Goalie Brady Moore was dominant all day. He made seven saves and blocked four other shots.
“Our offense sprung to life based on his defense,” said Parrish.
The Chargers shared the wealth on offense with four players scoring three goals: Chase Racich, Kevin Cappon, Derek Shoemaker and Christian Terpening.
Dos Pueblos (11-2, 1-0) returns to action Tuesday at Santa Barbara.
“We’re looking forward to going to Santa Barbara,” Parrish said. “We were excited to play Ventura and we’re really excited to play Santa Barbara.”
