Westmonster 5K run to benefit Warrior athletics

Westmont College Athletics will turn Thursday, August 19 into a summer evening of fun and fundraising when it hosts the Westmonster 5K Run. The cross country event, which will finish on the new and stunningly beautiful Westmont Track, will be followed by a free kids 1K run and dinner for all participants.

The race is scheduled to start on Westmont’s Lovik field at 6:15 p.m. Click here to register. The cost is $30 for adults, $15 for high school and college students and $10 for children 11-14. The entry fee includes a t-shirt. Participants may also arrive early and register on race day.

The event provides the general public, and especially the Santa Barbara running community, an opportunity to take in the scenic vistas of the Westmont Track which opened in late March of this year. The facility, which includes a state of the art digital display and timing system, is part of an athletic complex which includes Thorrington Field and Russ Carr Field.

Located on the infield of the track, the all-grass Thorrington Field is home to the Westmont men’s and women’s soccer teams. Both the Westmont Track and Thorrington Field benefit from a terraced seating area. The foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains loom to the north, providing a spectacular backdrop to the facility. Beyond the seating area is Russ Carr Field, home to Westmont baseball.

Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships to worthy Westmont student-athletes.
