Dodge Ward learned about handling the pressure keeping a lead in a golf tournament on Monday in the final round of the Santa Barbara Junior Golf Tour Championship.
Ward, holding a seven-shot lead going into the final round, fought off a charging Dustin Dalee to win the overall title by one stroke at the Montecito Country Club.
Dalee shot a final-round 6-over par 77 to give Ward a scare. Ward, who was the first-round medalist
at Valley Club with a 75, finished with an 83 at Montecito for a two-round total of 158. Dalee, who fired an 82 last week, shot 159 for the tournament. Alec Constantinides was third at 162 after shooting an 83 on Monday.
Vanesa Villa was able to take the girls title as first-round leader Kristin Henno had to withdraw due to an illness.
Grant Amerson held the lead in the 14-15 division and won the title by four shots with a 166. Ryan Stoll had the low round of the day in the group with a 78, moving him from sixth to third place. Tanner Guerra was the runner-up.
In the 12-13 group, Michael Nam led wire to wire and won by nine strokes. Travis Fristoe was second and Andrew Rice third.
Christian Heslin shot 50s both days to take the 9-hole 10-11 age division by six shots over second-place finisher Peter La Mantia. Bennett Reichard finished third.
