SBCC gave up two goals in the second half and suffered its first soccer defeat of the season, a 2-0 road loss at Santa Ana on Tuesday.
Santa Ana scored on a penalty kick in the 48th minute and on a corner kick in the 81st
The visiting Vaqueros (1-1) dominated the first 20 minutes, according to coach John Sisterson, but the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
“We had opportunities but the quality wasn’t there in the final third (of the field),” noted Sisterson. “Our defense was sloppy on that corner kick.”
Sisterson praised the play of Pierre Mattsson, a freshman midfielder from Sweden, and said Salvador Orozco played well at right back.
SBCC will take the next nine days off before traveling to Taft on Sept. 10.
