The Santa Barbara Water Polo Club was a force to be reckoned with at the 2010 S&R Sport USA Junior Olympics in Los Angeles last week. The club hauled in a number of superb results, including a gold medal for the 16-and-under girls team.
SBWPC’s 16u girls “A” team, coached by Mark Walsh, went undefeated in the tournament over seven matches, culminated by a 7-5 victory in the championship match over San Diego Shores. Kodi Hill, a soon-to-be junior at Dos Pueblos High, was named the division’s MVP.
SBWPC has so many strong players in the 16-and-under age group that it fielded a “B” team, which finished in 12th place.
None of SBWPC’s girls teams finished lower than fourth in the country for that matter, as the 18-and-unders and 14-and-unders both finished in third, and the 12-and-unders in fourth.

The 16s capped their tournament with an 12-11 win over the Lamorinda “A” team while the 18s bested Stanford 10-9.
The girls 14s and 18s also saw their final matches decided by a single goal. The 14s clipped Elite 10-9 and the 18s edged NorCal 8-7.
