Jessica Domenichelli didn’t waste any time finding the net on Friday in her college women’s soccer debut. She had a hat trick in the first 26 minutes and went on to score four times in SBCC’s 4-1 season-opening victory over College of the Sequoias at Girsh Park in Goleta.
The freshman forward from El Dorado Hills, Calif., found the net in the sixth, seventh and 26th minutes of the opening half, giving the Vaqueros a 3-1 halftime lead. She scored her final goal with one minute left in the non-conference game.
“Coming in, I was a little nervous,” said Domenichelli. “Once we figured out the tempo and realized we could get around easy on the outside, we settled down.
“We pass the ball around really well and we communicate well.”
Jenna Rubin, the sister of ex-Vaquero Casey Rubin, assisted on the first and fourth goals. Margot Valenzuela and Jaclyn Frankenberger had the other assists.
The win was the 100th for John Sisterson as coach of the SBCC men’s and women’s soccer squads. He’s 59-24-25 in six seasons as women’s coach and 41-19-8 in four years coaching the men.
He got his 101st win in the second half of the doubleheader as the Vaquero men beat Sequoias by the same 4-1 score.
“The girls played very well today,” said Sisterson. “We had a lot of chances in the second half and their keeper was tremendous.
“Jessica was fantastic. We expected her to be an offensive weapon and she did what we thought she’d do. Aly (Alison Raack of San Marcos High) was equally effective on the left flank. She’s not the biggest of girls but she tore it up.”
SBCC returns to action next week with three games in three days. The first one will be Thursday against Rio Hondo at Ventura College, followed by Friday’s home opener against Santa Rosa at 7:30 p.m.
