In the closest finish of the season, former Dos Pueblos High swim standout Trevor Kosmo pulled out a narrow victory over three fast finishers in the 1-mile swim at 15th Reef and Run Series event on Tuesday night at East Beach.
Only eight seconds separated Kosmo from the fourth-place swimmer, multi-time winner Stewart Reid. Kosmo’s time was 23 minutes, 9 seconds. Greg Gaitan finished second in 23:12 and Chris Braden was right behind him in 23:14. The top woman was Kristina Hill in 24:23.
Doug Parent won the 1-kilometer swim in 18:11 en route to taking the duathalon. He did the 2-mile run in 18 minutes flat for a combined winning time of 36:11.
Jonathan Koehn finished second in the 1k swim (20:00) and Dave Kosmo took third (21:35). Cynthia Yee was the first woman finisher in 25:02.
On land, Branko Steets finished first in the 2-mile run in 13:07 followed by Mark Yee (14:58) and Matt Moran (15:58). Amber Moran led the women in 17:15.
Ryan Wenger captured the 4-mile run in 25:25. Marco Robles (30:17) and Kelly Michael (31:03) were second and third, respectively. Amy Steets clocked 31:09 to lead the women.
Following Parent, Koehn took second in the duathalon (37:52) and Dave Kosmo (39:50) third.
