Foresters wrap up regular season with 9-2 win

SANTA MARIA — The Santa Barbara Foresters picked up one more win before hitting the road on Sunday, defeating the host Santa Maria Valley Packers 9-2 at Elks Field before jumping on the bus and heading to the National Baseball Congress World Series on Wichita.

Kevin Chambers, who has been used primarily as a pitcher this summer, hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Chris Joyce got the start and hit the first two batters he faced before walking the third. He escaped having given up just one run after a fly out to center and a 5-4-3 double play.

Nick Melino had three hits including a triple, and Jeff McNeil added three singles to the tally.

The Foresters (40-9, 29-7 CCL), play their first game in Wichita on Wednesday, with the time to be determined. All games are broadcast on AM 1490 and www.sbforesters.org.
