Back on the mainland after finishing second in a tournament in Hawaii, the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball team found the competition a little tougher at the Queen’s Court Tournament in Anaheim.
The Chargers went 1-2 in pool play and then defeated La Canada in straight sets in a pool crossover match to advance to the championship bracket playoffs. They lost to Redondo, 25-14, 25-16 and dropped into the consolation A Bracket.
The defending CIF Division 1 champions knocked off Murrieta Valley (23-25, 25-23, 15-9) before being edged by Corona del Mar (27-25, 19-25, 15-13).
“We saw some very good competition and we got to see what we will be up against this season,” coach Todd Garrett said. “We took a lot of notes and have plenty to work on starting Monday. Every team we lost to, except for Redondo, we took a game off of. That’s a good thing. We improve a little here and a lot there and those matches go our way.”
The tournament was a non-sanctioned CIF event and won’t count against DP’s record.
