After completing a record-setting career at the University of Hawaii, Ric Cervantes came home and took care of business at East Beach on Saturday, winning the annual Lime and the Coconut beach volleyball Tournament with partner Michelle Kobashi.
The combining of Cervantes and Kobashi after pool play created a formidable defensive unit. Cervantes, a former Santa Barbara High star, was the starting libero at Hawaii, where he finished his career as the school’s career leader in digs with 936. Kobashi is one of the best all-around women’s players at East Beach. She is a multi-time finalist and winner of the coed Lime and Coconut and Polar Bear tournaments.
Cervantes and Kobashi defeated Will Harris and Erika Adler in the final.
Third place went to Jeff Rydberg and Andrea Sanchez, while Adam Phillips and Meghan Cannon placed fourth.
