Ethan Veitch, 19, of Isla Vista won Tuesday’s Reef and Run duathlon by nearly three minutes, finishing with a time of 34 minutes flat. Veitch and Matt Vaughn each finished the 1k swim at 19:36, but Veitch completed the run with a blazing time of 14:25 — over a minute faster than any of the other duathletes.
Goleta’s Gabe Wu, 24, edged top female runner Kristen Candy by just four seconds in the 4-mile run at 27:53, and 11-year-old Natalie Widmer topped the two-mile run at 15:06. Carpinteria’s Carrie Blackmore is 36 years older than Widmer but was just three seconds behind in second place.
Stewart Reid, 37, blitzed the field in the one-mile swim at 22:35.
