Valaika to start in ‘AAA’ All-Star Game

Former UCSB baseball standout Chris Valaika has been tabbed as the starting second baseman for the International League in Wednesday’s Triple-A All-Star Game in Allentown, Pa.

The International League will play against the Pacific Coast League All-Star team.

Valaika, who starred at UCSB from 2004-06, is part of the Cincinnati Reds organization, playing for the Triple-A Louisville Bats. He is currently batting .297 in 84 games. He has driven in 31 RBIs and has 18 doubles to go with 34 runs scored.

This is Valaika’s fifth All-Star team in the minor leagues. He was named to both the Midseason and Postseason All-Star teams while playing in the Midwest League in 2007 and in 2008 he was a Futures Game selection. In 2006, his first professional season, Valaika was named to the Pioneer League’s Postseason All-Star squad.
