UCSB soccer embraces tradition of team scarfs

Scarfs are a part of soccer fandom as much as a team jersey. In stadiums all over the world, it is common to see fans proudly hold up a long piece of fabric in the team colors to show their loyalty and support.

UCSB has embraced that tradition. The school is hoping to see hundreds of scarfs in the stands at Harder Stadium this season. The athletic department is giving out exclusive “Soccer Heaven” scarfs to everyone who purchases season tickets prior the Gaucho men’s match against Creighton on Sept. 9.

UCSB has lined up an attractive 2010 home season. In addition to Creighton, a perennial NCAA Tournament qualifier, three-time national champion UCLA, ACC power Duke and Davidson will visit Harder Stadium for nonconference games.

The Big West Conference matches include UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside. There is also the possibility of hosting Big West Tournament games.

The capper to the whole year is the Men’s College Cup, the national semifinals and final on Dec. 10-12.

All season ticket packages include tickets to the College Cup. Individual season tickets start at just $75 and include one ticket to all home men and women’s regular season games and one College Cup all-session ticket. UCSB staff and faculty can purchase their season tickets for a reduced rate of $50.

Another option is the popular Family Plan. For just $175, families will get two adult tickets and three youth tickets to all men’s and women’s regular season home games, and two College Cup all-session tickets. All kids tickets will also include a free membership to GKids, the official kids club of Gaucho Athletics.

To purchase your tickets for the 2010 soccer season or for more information, please call (805) 893-UCSB, visit the Ticket Office located inside the Intercollegiate Athletics Building on campus or buy online.
