Top seeds hold strong at SB Open

The top four seeds in the Men’s Open draw advanced through three rounds over the weekend at the Santa Barbara Open, setting up the semifinals in perfect form for the tournament’s second weekend.

No. 1 seed and ranked ATP tennis pro Nima Roshan cruised through his first two matches before defeating sixth-seeded Ryan Heinberg 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. No. 2 seed Luis Perez ousted former champion and last year’s finalist Adam Webster in another quarterfinal.

Defending Men’s Open champ Leo Basica brought down UCSB player Taylor Chavez Goggin in his quarterfinal match 6-1, 6-2 with Alexandre Anselme filling out the semifinals with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Moises Cardenas.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Erica Cano claimed the Women’s Open title without dropping a set. The Dos Pueblos graduate defeated Michele Saunders in the final 7-5, 6-4.

Basica is also seeking a doubles title, reaching the final with Heinberg as a partner. Webster and Mark Windes survived the other half of the draw and will be the opponent.
