Santa Barbara’s Spencer Simon has been tearing up the Caribbean hard courts of late, winning two doubles and a singles title recently in the Bahamas and Aruba in ITF Grade 4 events.
Simon swept the singles and doubles draws in Noord, Aruba this past weekend at TIHTA 2010. Simon, 17, defeated doubles partner and No. 1 seeded Shaun Bernstein in the semifinals before winning the title match 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 over Robert Livi. Bernstein and Simon didn’t drop a set on their way to the doubles championship.
The same pair marched to the title at the Junkanoo Bowl the week before in the Bahamas, also without losing a set in four matches. Bahamian Rodney Carey knocked Simon out of the singles competition in the second round. Carey reached the final where Bernstein was able to claim a singles title of his own.
