The Santa Barbara Breakers have announced the signing of guard Tim Taylor to play for the Beijing Aoshen Olympians of Chinese Federation Basketball.
Taylor, who averaged 19.3 points per game during the 2010 season, arrived in Beijing on Sunday, June 27 and will begin workouts with the team as well as teaching basketball skills to the younger players affiliated with the Beijing Club.
The Olympian squad is the same organization which played in the West Coast Professional Basketball League during the 2009 Season and also produced Sun Yue, 6’9 point guard who played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008-09 Championship Season.
Breakers President Curt Pickering had this to say about Tim Taylor: “Tim has been the consummate role model for Breakers basketball on and off the court. He has not only contributed on the floor but also immersed himself with youth in the community through clinics and assisted us in our Marketing Department. Tim is most deserving for this great opportunity in China and we wish him the very best in taking the Beijing Team to the next level in their very competitive basketball schedule.”
Six Breaker players have played in China: Lamond Murray (2007); Ronell Mingo (2007); Trayvon Latham (2007); Keith Closs (2008); Mark Dawson (2009) and Taylor. All told, the Breakers have sent over 40 players to professional opportunities overseas during their five year tenure.
