San Marcos catcher Riley Moore was one of a select few to be chosen to play for the Milwaukee Brewers Blue team in the prestigious Area Code Games, Aug. 5-10, at Blair Field in Long Beach.
The 6-3 Moore, who is going into his senior year, is one of two catchers on the 25-man roster that was picked from several players who were invited to tryouts at Westmont College a week ago.
The four days of tryouts included 32 pitchers, none of them below 85 mph, 70 position players and a 100 scouts to evaluate each player. The Brewers will have two teams in Long Beach.
Moore had one of the top “pop times” for a catcher — the time between catching a pitch and the ball hitting the glove at second base — at 2.10 seconds. The top time was 1.88 by seconds by Austin Hedges of JSerra in San Juan Capistrano.
The Area Code Games features pro prospects from all over the country.
