Down 8-1, Santa Barbara Pony Baseball’s Red 14-under All-Stars staged a thrilling comeback and beat Ocean View 11-9 in the district tournament in Newbury Park on Saturday.
Santa Barbara started its comeback in the bottom of the third inning on a Mario Aguilar two-run homer.
After a double play in the top of the fourth inning ended an Ocean View threat, Santa Barbara erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the fourth. The big hit was bases-loaded triple by Skyler Sabado. Michael Day scored the go-ahead run when he stole third and came home on a throwing error by the Ocean View catcher.
Santa Barbara pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Michael Day hit a sacrifice fly ball to score Aguilar.
Santa Barbara Pony Red All-Stars will play Ventura Coastal Platinum for the district championship on Monday at 7 p.m.
