Santa Barbara Pony Baseball’s Red All-Stars rallied from a five-run deficit and beat Santa Ynez 8-7 in the first game of the district tournament at Dos Vientos Community Center in Newbury Park on Friday.
Trailing 6-1 after the first inning, Santa Barbara cut the lead in half on run-scoring hits by Colin Dosch and Mario Aguilar.
Santa Barbara then exploded for five runs in the fifth inning. Skyler Sabado started the rally with an infield hit. The big hit in the inning was Dosch’s line-drive, two-run single to right field with two outs that broke a 6-6 tie.
Santa Ynez got a solo homer in the seventh, but Santa Barbara was able to hang on in the tournament opener.
Aguilar went the distance on the mound for Santa Barbara and struck out eight.
