GVSLL 10-11 runs into some serious speed in loss

Size mattered in Goleta Valley South League’s second game at the Little League 10-11 All-Star Divisional Tournament in Ontario on Sunday.

Goleta Valley South first faced a 6-foot left-hander from La Verne who threw consistently 63 mph on the radar gun and then a 5-11 reliever who had a nasty curveball and a fastball that was clocked in the 57-59 mph range.

“Needless to say base hits were hard to come by,” said coach Dan Feldhaus after a 10-1 loss. “We struck out 10 times.”

Blake Katsev was able to get his bat on the LaVerne heat, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI. He drove in Ryan Guardino for Goleta Valley South’s lone run.

Goleta Valley South plays an elimination game Monday at 5 p.m. against Quartz Hill.
