Reliever Colter Nisbet pitched out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Goleta Valley South Little League 10-under All-Stars hung on to defeat Dos Pueblos for the championship of the District 63 Tournament.
Nisbet entered the game with the bases loaded and his team leading 6-3 in the fifth. He hit the first batter to force in a run and then shut down Dos Pueblos the rest of the way. He left two runners on base in the sixth.
Goleta Valley advances to the sectional tournament in Moorpark on Sunday.
Goleta Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jake Sofro doubled in Alex Furukawa and Trey Tank and later stole home.
Dos Pueblos scored single runs in the second and third off Goleta Valley starter Kevin Barker to pull within one run.
Tank came on to pitch in the fourth and retired the side on five pitches
Goleta Valley created some breathing room in the fifth with three runs. Sam Drew opened the inning with a single and, after DP got two outs, Sofro singled and Nisbet crushed a two-run double. Dylan Shugart singled in Nisbet for a 6-3 lead.
Nisbet was back on the mound in the bottom of the sixth and, with men on second and third, closed out the game with a strikeout.
