UCSB senior forward Kylie McDonald helped the Camarillo Eagles win the Under-23 title at the U.S. National Soccer Championships in Overland Park, Kan.
The Eagles defeated Arizona Rush Nike 2-1 in the final to become only the second women’s team in history to win three age-group national titles. They previously won as a U14 team in 2004 and a U17 squad in 2007.
“These girls never cease to amaze me,” said Eagles head coach and former Gaucho Vince Thomas. “Since they were 13 years old they have understood what it takes to be a champion. We are proud of the three national titles and look forward to trying for a fourth in 2011. That truly would be historic.”
McDonald was an All-Big West first team selection after leading the Gauchos in assists for the second straight year.
