UCSB will have plenty of representation next week at the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships as eight current Gauchos are set to compete in the meet that runs August 3-7 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.
Kevin Ferguson, Ryan Garcia, Ryan Hanni, Chris Peterson and Evan Simoni will be competing on the men’s side. Ferguson will be swimming the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, Garcia will be swimming the 400 individual medley, Hanni will be swimming the 50, 100 and 200 free, Peterson will be competing in the 50 and 100 free and Simoni will swim the 400 IM.
On the women’s side, incoming freshman Paige Bradley along with Kendall Neely and Katie Stover will be competing next week. Bradley will swim the 100 and 200 breast as well as the 200 IM. Neely will compete in the 50 free and Stover is swimming in the 100 and 200 free as well as the 100 back.
Recent UCSB graduates Anne Marie May (50 free) and Naomi Javanifard (100 back) will also be making an appearance at the meet along with 2009 graduate Katy Freeman, who will be competing in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
The event will serve as trials for numerous events, including the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships to be held in Irvine later in August.
