Foresters take down East L.A. 8-5

The Santa Barbara Foresters have seen nothing but Ws when it comes to the Rawlings California Cup Tournament.  The Foresters beat the East L.A. Dodgers 8-5 on Saturday, improving their tournament record to 3-0.

The game started with back-to-back singles from Foresters right fielder Nick Melino and shortstop Kyle Kubitza. Next up was third baseman Walker Moore who homered over the left field fence.  The homer was Moore’s second of the season and put Santa Barbara up 3-0 going into the bottom of the first.

In the top of the third, with Kubitza on second and Moore on first, left fielder Jeff McVaney popped up to East L.A.’s pitcher, resulting in an inning-ending triple play.

BOX SCORE

The Dodgers pulled ahead, 4-3, briefly in the bottom of four after Foresters reliever Keifer Nuncio gave up four runs on four hits–two singles and two doubles.

The Foresters responded quickly posting another three runs in the fifth.  The two teams tied at 12 hits apiece, but four errors by the East L.A. Dodgers helped the Foresters to an additional unearned run.

Melino went 3-4, scoring three runs while Moore was 2-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Left-handed pitched Kylin Turnbull was awarded the win while Cody Martin earned the save.
