Dos Pueblos Little League’s Junior All-Stars made history Wednesday night. In routing Thousand Oaks 11-1 Wednesday, they became the league’s first Section 1 champion in the 13-14 division.
Dos Pueblos used some timely hitting to capitalize on several walks given up Thousand Oaks pitchers and built an early lead. The championship game in Oxnard was called in the fifth inning on the 10-run mercy rule.
Thousand Oaks defeated DP on Tuesday night, 14-12, to force a second championship game.
The DP All-Stars advance to the State Tournament in Ontario on Saturday.
Drake Gilliland pitched all five innings for DP to get the win. He gave up one run and scattered seven hits, and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam by getting the Thousand Oaks batter to hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
Dylan Rohde led the offense with three hits, while Daniel Dzierski added a pair of hits 2 hits.
Winning championships is nothing new to the players on this DP team. The majority of them have played all-stars together since winning the state tournament title as 9 year olds.
