Luke Coffey blasted two home runs and pitched a scoreless final two innings to help power the Dos Pueblos Little League 11-12 All-Stars to a 10-5 comeback win over Ventura Coastal for the District 63 championship on Wednesday night.
Dos Pueblos moves on to the Section 1 Tournament on Saturday in Arroyo Grande, where it will open play against Moorpark.
Ventura Coastal jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a walk and three hits. But DP stormed back in the top of the second, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs on five walks and one hit due to very aggressive base running.
DP added a run in the third when a double steal allowed Tim Heiduk to score from third. Coffey accounted for the remaining runs with a two-run HR in the fourth and a solo shot to center field in the sixth.
Peter Appel, Heiduk and Coffey all pitched for DP, whose team ERA for the entire tournament was a paltry 1.6.
Offensively, DP averaged just under 6 runs per game during its seven games in the district tournament.
The District 63-champion DP 11-12 All-Stars include Peter Appel, Jose Avila, Luke Coffey, Travis Craven, Dustin Demeter, Tim Heiduk, Kenny O’Donnell, Jonathan Sloan, Peter Trapp and John Wetzel. The team is managed by Don Heiduk and coached by Dave Demeter, Brian Craven and Steve Buratto.
