Peter Appel led a strong pitching performance by the Dos Pueblos Little League 11-12 All-Stars in their District 63 double-elimination tournament opener on Saturday.
Appel struck out eight and walked three in 3 2/3 innings and Dustin Demeter, Kenny O’Donnell and Luke Coffey kept the shutout in a 2-0 win over host Saticoy. Coffey earned the save.
DP scored its runs in the third and fifth. Peter Trapp singled, stole second moved to third on an errant throw and scored on a hit by Travis Craven.
Kenny O’Donnell homered in the fifth.
Jonathan Sloan continued his hot hitting with two hard-hit singles.
DP continues tournament play today against Ventura Coastal at 1:30 p.m. at Saticoy Little League.
