Conner Coffin, Parker Coffin and Lakey Peterson are motoring through heats at Surfing America’s USA Championships, heading into Saturday with just a few more heats between them and national titles.
It won’t be easy, however, as many of the country’s other top youth surfers remain in the competition. This weekend’s progress can be tracked live via web cast at SurfingAmerica.org. Final heats run on Monday.
Patrick Curren is another local Santa Barbara surfer still alive, competing in the 14-and-under boys division. Older brother Frank was punched out in the second round of the 16-and-under competition.
Peterson is vying for titles in both the 16-and-under division and the 18-and-under division. The 15-year-old is on fire so far, recording the highest heat scores of any surfer in the first round of both divisions.
