Tim Brown’s Football Mentor Mini Camp came to Santa Barbara for the first time on Tuesday, as the Heisman Trophy winner and NFL great shared his day at Providence Hall with close to 80 fatherless youths from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.
Along with Brown, localCHP and City Fire personnel were on hand to serve as mentors, joined by members of the SBCC football team, who helped run drills.
Brown watched over drills, spoke to the group, signed autographs and climbed the ladder of a City fire engine while at the school.
“It’s always special,” Brown said of doing the annual camp. “You hope they remember it at the end of the day.”
The longtime Raider, who retired in 2004, started the program in 1999.. The local CHP brought the camp to Santa Barbara after it had been held in Sacramento for 11 years.
“We certainly looking at keeping it here and maybe expanding to some other areas also,” Brown said.
