Some control issues in the middle of the game put the Santa Barbara Foresters in a hole they couldn’t climb out of on Sunday, falling 10-6 to settle for a split in a two-game home series with the Seattle Studs.
Seattle broke a 2-2 tie by scoring eight runs in the top of the fifth off of four hits, two errors and three hit batters. Keifer Nuncio made his Foresters debut and failed to record an out en route to five runs (two earned) given in the inning, and the Studs continued to pour it on.
“Keifer’s the kind of player that’s already forgotten about that. He’s gonna be ready to go and do good things for us,” said University of Texas teammate Sam Stafford, who picked up a 1-2-3 top of the seventh with two strikeouts.
The Foresters (10-5) roared back on back-to-back solo homers by Michael Ratterree and Ryan Hege in the fifth, and got two more back on a two-run round-tripper by Nick Melino in the seventh — but it wasn’t enough.
“We showed some great resiliency and comeback power. I was proud of the effort,” said manager Bill Pintard.
The Foresters host the Menlo Park Legends on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
