Santa Barbaran Stewart Reid continued his dominance of the 1-mile ocean swim at the Reef and Run Series at East Beach on Tuesday, winning his fourth straight race and fifth of the season.
Reid, 36, covered the distance in 22 minutes, 21 seconds. In the eight races run thus far, Reid has five wins and three runners-up finishes. His best time is 19:57, posted in the second event of the series.
Taj Hudson, 37, of Santa Barbara won his second straight duathalon in 34:37. His times were 19:27 for the 1-kilometer swim and 15:11 for the 2-mile run.
The 1-k swim was won by Randy Higashi, 20, of Goleta, in 25:29, with 71-year-old Sylvia Glenn taking second in 29:40.
Brandon Sheets, 32, beat out Sterling Ellsworth, 45, for his second straight victory, and third overall, in the 2-mile run. Sheets finished in 13:53 and Ellsworth in 14:03. Julie Erickson, 25, placed third in 14:45.
Jesse Newton, 23, of Carpinteria, was the top finisher in the 4-mile run in 27:11.
Stepan Paul, 24, and Ben Leinfelder, 27, both of Goleta, finished behind Hudson in the duathalon with times of 34:56 and 35:04, respectively.
Marianne Elefant, 22, also of Goleta, was the top woman (ninth overall) in 42:14.
