The Mission City Brawlin Betties hosted their final roller derby of the summer on Saturday, June 12, when they faced one of their most challenging opponents this season in CCRD’s SLO Slammers at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
With several veteran players unable to bout due to injury, MCBB had four fresh meat players- Lem E. Atom, Puff Puff Pass, Vicious Vagintina, and Miss Hisssss- making their derby debut against an experienced CCRD team, and the odds seemed to be stacked against them.
CCRD took an early 13-4 lead, and just when it looked like the Betties might take their first loss of the season, they rallied together for an immediate 28-0 run and never looked back.
The veteran and fresh meat blockers created a lot of space on the track for their jammers by controlling the pack and landing big hits on CCRD. The jammers took advantage of these opportunities and went on a scoring frenzy, ending the game with a 195-71 win, and keeping their perfect record (4-0).
The Betties’ next home bout is scheduled for October 2.
