Goleta’s Jeff Mumm ran away with the duathlon title at Tuesday’s Reef & Run, the seventh installment of the 2010 season for the weekly event held in front of the Cabrillo Bath House on East Beach.
Mumm’s time of 41:30 was more than three minutes better than second-place finisher Chris Latham. Mumm recorded the fourth best time for the swim portion but blitzed past the field in the run, breaking the 15 minute barrier when only one other competitor was able to break 17 minutes. Don Orth placed third overall in the duathlon.
Stewart Reid and Zach Paris went head-to-head in the one-mile ocean swim, with Reid slightly faster at 22:47.
Greg Husak averaged 6:26 per mile to easily win the four-mile run, posting an overall time of 25:41.
