Eugene, Ore. – Ryan Martin and Julian DeRubira each earned All-American status and Kayla Smith broke a school record on the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.
Martin, a junior, ran a 1:47.02 in the 800 meters to finish in fourth-place in the event. In the steeplechase, deRubira ran an 8:49.34 to finish ninth. The duo of Martin and deRubira joined the All-American trio of Jane Doolittle (high jump), Danielle Domenichelli (10,000 meters), and Barbara Nwaba (heptathlon) each of whom earned All-Amercan honors earlier in the meet.
Smith narrowly missed joining her teammates as All-Americans. She finished 12th in the shot put with a school record heave of 52′ 9.85″. Smith broke Amy Haapanen’s three-year old record.
